H\u0101-M\u012bm;\n2. \u2018Ain. S\u012bn. K\u0101f.\n3. Thus doth (He) send\n Inspiration to thee\n As (He did) to those before thee,\u2014\n God, Exalted in Power,\n Full of Wisdom.\n4. To Him belongs all\n That is in the heavens\n And on earth: and He\n Is Most High, Most Great.\n5. The heavens are almost\n Rent asunder from above them\n (By His Glory):\n And the angels celebrate\n The Praises of their Lord,\n And pray for forgiveness\n For (all) beings on earth:\n Behold! Verily God is He,\nThe Oft-Forgiving,\n Most Merciful.\n6. And those who take\n As protectors others besides\n Him,\u2014\n God doth watch over them;\n And thou art not\n The disposer of their affairs.\n7. Thus have We sent\n By inspiration to thee\n An Arabic Qur-\u0101n:\n That thou mayest warn\n The Mother of Cities\n And all around her,\u2014\n And warn (them) of\n The Day of Assembly,\n Of which there is no doubt:\n (When) some will be\n In the Garden, and some\n In the Blazing Fire.\n8. If God had so willed,\n He could have made them\n A single people; but He\n Admits whom He will\n To His Mercy;\n And the wrong-doers\n Will have no protector\n Nor helper.\n9. What! Have they taken\n (For worship) protectors\nBesides Him? But it is\n God,\u2014He is the Protector,\n And it is He Who\n Gives life to the dead:\n It is He Who has power\n Over all things.\n10. Whatever it be wherein\n Ye differ, the decision\n Thereof is with God:\n Such is God my Lord:\n In Him I trust,\n And to Him I turn.\n11. (He is) the Creator\n Of the heavens and\n The earth: He has made\n For you pairs\n From among yourselves,\n And pairs among cattle:\n By this means does He\n Multiply you: there is nothing\n Whatever like unto Him,\n And He is the One\n That hears and sees (all things).\n12. To Him belong the keys\n Of the heavens and the earth:\nHe enlarges and restricts.\n The Sustenance to whom\n He will: for He knows\n Full well all things.\n13. The same religion has He\n Established for you as that\n Which He enjoined on Noah\u2014\n The which We have sent\n By inspiration to thee\u2014\n And that which We enjoined\n On Abraham, Moses, and Jesus:\n Namely, that ye should remain\n Steadfast in Religion, and make\n No divisions therein:\n To those who worship\n Other things than God,\n Hard is the (way)\n To which thou callest them,\n God chooses to Himself\n Those whom He pleases,\n And guides to Himself\n Those who turn (to Him).\n14. And they became divided\n Only after knowledge\n Reached them,\u2014through selfish\n Envy as between themselves.\n Had it not been\n For a Word that\nWent forth before\n From thy Lord,\n (Tending) to a Term appointed,\n The matter would have\n Been settled between them:\n But truly those who have\n Inherited the Book after them\n Are in suspicious (disquieting)\n Doubt concerning it.\n15. Now then, for that (reason),\n Call (them to the Faith),\n And stand steadfast\n As thou art commanded,\n Nor follow thou their vain\n Desires; but say: \"I believe\n In the Book which\n God has sent down;\n And I am commanded\n To judge justly between you.\n God is our Lord\n And your Lord. For us\n (Is the responsibility for)\n Our deeds, and for you\n For your deeds. There is\n No contention between us\n And you. God will\n Bring us together,\n And to Him is\n (Our) final goal.\n16. But those who dispute\n Concerning God after He\n Has been accepted,\u2014\n Futile is their dispute\n In the sight of\n Their Lord: on them\n Is Wrath, and for them\n Will be a Penalty\n Terrible.\n17. It is God Who has\n Sent down the Book in truth,\n And the Balance\n (By which to weigh conduct).\n And what will make thee\n Realise that perhaps the Hour\n Is close at hand?\n18. Only those wish to\n Hasten it who believe not\n In it: those who believe\n Hold it in awe,\n And know that it is\n The Truth. Behold, verily\n Those that dispute concerning\n The Hour are far astray.\n19. Gracious is God\n To His servants:\nHe gives Sustenance\n To whom He pleases:\n And He has Power\n And can carry out\n His Will.\n20. To any that desires\n The tilth of the Hereafter,\n We give increase\n In his tilth; and to any\n That desires the tilth\n Of this world, We grant\n Somewhat thereof, but he\n Has no share or lot\n In the Hereafter.\n21. What! Have they partners\n (In godhead), who have\n Established for them some\n Religion without the permission\n Of God? Had it not\n Been for the Decree\n Of Judgment, the matter\n Would have been decided\n Between them (at once).\n But verily the wrong-doers\n Will have a grievous Penalty.\n22. Thou wilt see the wrong-doers\n In fear on account of what\nThey have earned, and (the burden\n Of) that must (necessarily)\n Fall on them. But those\n Who believe and work\n Righteous deeds will be\n In the luxuriant meads\n Of the Gardens: they shall\n Have, before their Lord,\n All that they wish for.\n That will indeed be\n The magnificent Bounty\n (Of God).\n23. That is (the Bounty) whereof\n God gives Glad Tidings\n To His Servants who\n Believe and do righteous deeds.\n Say: \"No reward do I\n Ask of you for this\n Except the love\n Of those near of kin.\"\n And if any one earns\n Any good, We shall give\n Him an increase of good\n In respect thereof: for God\n Is Oft-Forgiving, Most Ready\n To appreciate (service).\n24. What! Do they say,\n \"He has forged a falsehood\n Against God\"? But if God\n Willed, He could seal up\nThy heart. And God\n Blots out Vanity, and proves\n The Truth by His Words.\n For He knows well\n The secrets of all hearts.\n25. He is the One that accepts\n Repentance from His Servants\n And forgives sins:\n And He knows all\n That ye do.\n26. And He listens to\n Those who believe and\n Do deeds of righteousness,\n And gives them increase\n Of His Bounty: but\n For the Unbelievers there is\n A terrible Penalty.\n27. If God were to enlarge\n The provision for His Servants,\n They would indeed transgress\n Beyond all bounds\n Through the earth;\n But He sends (it) down\n In due measure\n As He pleases.\n For He is with His Servants\n Well-acquainted, Watchful.\n28. He is the One that sends down\n Rain (even) after (men) have\nGiven up all hope,\n And scatters His Mercy\n (Far and wide). And He\n Is the Protector, Worthy\n Of all Praise.\n29. And among His Signs\n Is the creation of\n The heavens and the earth,\n And the living creatures\n That He has scattered\n Through them: and He\n Has power to gather them\n Together when He wills.\n30. Whatever misfortune\n Happens to you, is because\nOf the things your hands\n Have wrought, and for many\n (Of them) He grants forgiveness.\n31. Nor can ye frustrate (aught),\n (Fleeing) through the earth;\n Nor have ye, besides God,\n Any one to protect\n Or to help.\n32. And among His Signs\n Are the ships, smooth-running\n Through the ocean, (tall)\n As mountains.\n33. If it be His Will,\n He can still the Wind:\n Then would they become\n Motionless on the back\n Of the (ocean). Verily\n In this are Signs\n For everyone who patiently\n Perseveres and is grateful.\n34. Or He can cause them\n To perish because of\n The (evil) which (the men)\n Have earned; but much\n Doth He forgive.\n35. But let those know, who\n Dispute about Our Signs,\n That there is for them\n No way of escape.\n36. Whatever ye are given (here)\n Is (but) a convenience\n Of this Life: but that\n Which is with God\n Is better and more lasting:\n (It is) for those who believe\n And put their trust\n In their Lord;\n37. Those who avoid the greater\n Crimes and shameful deeds,\n And, when they are angry\n Even then forgive;\n38. Those who hearken\n To their Lord, and establish\nRegular prayer; who (conduct)\n Their affairs by mutual\n Consultation;\n Who spend out of what\n We bestow on them\n For Sustenance;\n39. And those who, when\n An oppressive wrong is inflicted\n On them, (are not cowed\n But) help and defend themselves.\n40. The recompense for an injury\n Is an injury equal thereto\n (In degree): but if a person\n Forgives and makes reconciliation,\nHis reward is due\n From God: for (God)\n Loveth not those who\n Do wrong.\n41. But indeed if any do help\n And defend themselves\n After a wrong (done)\n To them, against such\n There is no cause\n Of blame.\n42. The blame is only\n Against those who oppress\n Men with wrong-doing\n And insolently transgress\n Beyond bounds through the land,\n Defying right and justice:\n For such there will be\n A Penalty grievous.\n43. But indeed if any\n Show patience and forgive,\n That would truly be\n An exercise of courageous will\n And resolution in the conduct\n Of affairs.\n44. For any whom God\n Leaves astray, there is\n No protector thereafter.\n And thou wilt see\n The wrong-doers, when\n In sight of the Penalty,\n Say: \"Is there any way\n (To effect) a return?\"\n45. And thou wilt see them\n Brought forward to the (Penalty),\n In a humble frame of mind\n Because of (their) disgrace,\n (And) looking with a stealthy\n Glance. And the Believers\n Will say: \"Those are indeed.\n In loss. who have given\n To perdition their own selves\n And those belonging to them\n On the Day of Judgment.\n Behold! Truly the wrong-doers\n Are in a lasting Penalty!\"\n46. And no protectors have they\n To help them,\n Other than God.\n And for any whom God\n Leaves to stray, there is\n No way (to the Goal).\n47. Hearken ye to your Lord,\n Before there come a Day\n Which there will be\n No putting back, because\n Of (the ordainment of) God!\n That Day there will be\n For you no place of refuge\n Nor will there be for you\n Any room for denial\n (Of your sins)!\n48. If then they turn away,\n We have not sent thee\n As a guard over them.\n Thy duty is but to convey\n (The Message). And truly,\n When We give man\n A taste of a Mercy\n From ourselves, he doth\n Exult thereat, but\n When some ill happens\n To him, on account\n Of the deeds which\n His hands have sent forth,\n Truly then is man ungrateful!\n49. To God belongs the dominion\n Of the heavens and the earth.\n He creates what He wills\n (And plans). He bestows\n(Children) male or female\n According to His Will (and Plan),\n50. Or He bestows both males\n And females, and He leaves\n Barren whom He will:\n For He is full\n Of knowledge and power.\n51. It is not fitting\n For a man that God\n Should speak to him\n Except by inspiration,\n Or from behind a veil,\n Or by the sending\n Of a Messenger\n To reveal, with God's permission,\n What God wills: for He\n Is Most High, Most Wise.\n52. And thus have We,\n By Our command, sent\nInspiration to thee:\n Thou knewest not (before)\n What was Revelation, and\n What was Faith; but We\n Have made the (Qur-\u0101n)\n A Light, wherewith We\n Guide such of Our servants\n As We will; and verily\n Thou dost guide (men)\n To the Straight Way,\u2014\n53.
