Whatever is\n In the heavens and\n On earth, let it declare\n The Praises and Glory\n Of God: for He is\n The Exalted in Might,\n The Wise.\n2. It is He Who got out\n The Unbelievers among\n The People of the Book\n From their homes\n At the first gathering\n (Of the forces).\n Little did ye think\n That they would get out:\n And they thought\n That their fortresses\n Would defend them from God!\n But the (Wrath of) God\nCame to them from quarters\n From which they little\n Expected (it), and cast\n Terror into their hearts,\n So that they destroyed\n Their dwellings by their own\n Hands and the hands\n Of the Believers.\n Take warning, then,\n O ye with eyes (to see)!\n3. And had it not been\n That God had decreed\n Banishment for them,\n He would certainly have\n Punished them in this world:\n And in the Hereafter\n They shall (certainly) have\n The Punishment of the Fire.\n4. That is because they\n Resisted God and His Apostle:\n And if any one resists God,\n Verily God is severe\n In Punishment.\n5. Whether ye cut down\n (O ye Muslims!)\n The tender palm-trees,\n Or ye left them standing\n On their roots, it was\n By leave of God, and\n In order that He might\n Cover with shame\n The rebellious transgressors.\n6. What God has bestowed\n On His Apostle (and taken\n Away) from them\u2014for this\n Ye made no expedition\n With either cavalry or camelry:\n But God gives power\n To His apostles over\n Any He pleases: and God\n Has power over all things.\n7. What God has bestowed\n On His Apostle (and taken\n Away) from the people\n Of the townships,\u2014belongs\nTo God,\u2014to His Apostle\n And to kindred and orphans,\n The needy and the wayfarer;\n In order that it may not\n (Merely) make a circuit\n Between the wealthy among you.\n So take what the Apostle\n Assigns to you, and deny\n Yourselves that which he\n Withholds from you.\n And fear God; for God\n Is strict in Punishment.\n8. (Some part is due)\n To the indigent Muh\u0101jirs,\n Those who were expelled\n From their homes and their property,\n While seeking Grace from God\n And (His) Good Pleasure,\n And aiding God and His Apostle:\n Such are indeed\n The sincere ones;\u2014\n9. But those who\n Before them, had homes\n (In Medina)\n And had adopted the Faith,\u2014\n Show their affection to such\n As came to them for refuge,\n And entertain no desire\n In their hearts for things\nGiven to the (latter),\n But give them preference\n Over themselves, even though\n Poverty was their (own lot).\n And those saved from\n The covetousness of their own\n Souls,\u2014they are the ones\n That achieve prosperity.\n10. And those who came\n After them say: \"Our Lord!\n Forgive us, and our brethren\n Who came before us\n Into the Faith,\n And leave not,\n In our hearts,\n Rancour (or sense of injury)\n Against those who have believed.\n Our Lord! Thou art\n Indeed Full of Kindness,\n Most Merciful.\"\n11. Hast thou not observed\n The Hypocrites say\n To their misbelieving brethren\n Among the People of the Book?\u2014\n \"If ye are expelled,\n We too will go out\n With you, and we will\n Never hearken, to any one\n In your affair; and if\n Ye are attacked (in fight)\nWe will help you\".\n But God is witness\n That they are indeed liars.\n12. If they are expelled,\n Never will they go out\n With them; and if they\n Are attacked (in fight),\n They will never help them;\n And if they do help them,\n They will turn their backs;\n So they will receive no help.\n13. Of a truth ye are\n Stronger (than they)\n Because of the terror\n In their hearts,\n (Sent) by God.\n This is because they are\n Men devoid of understanding.\n14. They will not fight you\n (Even) together, except\n In fortified townships,\n Or from behind walls.\n Strong is their fighting (spirit)\n Amongst themselves:\n Thou wouldst think\n They were united,\n But their hearts are divided:\n That is because they\nAre a people devoid\n Of wisdom.\n15. Like those who lately\n Preceded them, they have\n Tasted the evil result\n Of their conduct; and\n (In the Hereafter there is)\n For them a grievous Penalty;\u2014\n16. (Their allies deceived them),\n Like the Evil One,\n When he says to man,\n \"Deny God\": but when\n (Man) denies God,\n (The Evil One) says,\n \"I am free of thee:\n I do fear God,\n The Lord of the Worlds!\"\n17. The end of both will be\n That they will go\n Into the Fire, dwelling\n Therein for ever.\n Such is the reward\n Of the wrong-doers.\n18. O ye who believe!\n Fear God,\nAnd let every soul look\n To what (provision) he has\n Sent forth for the morrow.\n Yea, fear God:\n For God is well-acquainted\n With (all) that ye do.\n19. And be ye not like\n Those who forgot God;\n And He made them forget\n Their own souls! Such\n Are the rebellious transgressors!\n20. Not equal are\n The Companions of the Fire\n And the Companions\n Of the Garden:\n It is the Companions\n Of the Garden,\n That will achieve Felicity.\n21. Had We sent down\n This Qur-\u0101n on a mountain,\n Verily, thou wouldst have seen\n It humble itself and cleave\nAsunder for fear of God.\n Such are the similitudes\n Which We propound to men,\n That they may reflect.\n22. God is He, than Whom\n There is no other god;\u2014\n Who knows (all things)\n Both secret and open;\n He, Most Gracious,\n Most Merciful.\n23. God is He, than Whom\n There is no other god;\u2014\n The Sovereign, the Holy One,\n The Source of Peace\n (and Perfection),\n The Guardian of Faith,\n The Preserver of Safety,\n The Exalted in Might,\n The Irresistible, the Supreme:\nGlory to God!\n (High is He)\n Above the partners\n They attribute to Him.\n24.
