I do call to witness\n This City;\u2014\n2. And thou art a freeman\n Of this City;\u2014\n3. And (the mystic ties\n of) Parent and Child;\u2014\n4. Verily We have created\n Man into toil and struggle.\n5. Thinketh he, that none\n Hath power over him?\n6. He may say (boastfully):\n \"Wealth have I squandered\n In abundance!\"\n7. Thinketh he that none\n Beholdeth him?\n8. Have We not made\n For him a pair of eyes?\u2014\n9. And a tongue,\n And a pair of lips?\u2014\n10. And shown him\n The two highways?\n11. But he hath made no haste\n On the path that is steep.\n12. And what will explain\n To thee the path that is steep?\u2014\n13. (It is:) freeing the bondman;\n14. Or the giving of food\n In a day of privation\n15. To the orphan\n With claims of relationship,\n16. Or to the indigent\n (Down) in the dust.\n17. Then will he be\n Of those who believe,\n And enjoin patience, (constancy,\n And self-restraint), and enjoin\n Deeds of kindness and compassion.\n18. Such are the Companions\n Of the Right Hand.\n19.
