A fragmentary account of the poem, containing some curious errors, such as \u201cSarwik\u201d being translated \u201cHell;\u201d but with useful comments, especially on the Kalevide\u2019s voyage to the North Pole. We cannot see, however, that the Esthonian writings exhibit the melancholy character of a depressed nation, as Mr. Baring-Gould imagines.\nGROSSE, JULIUS. M\u00e4rchen und Sagen des estnischen Volkes. Two Parts. Dorpat, 1881, and Riga, 1888. A selection of tales from various sources, some few being from Kreutzwald\u2019s collection. Valuable notes are appended to Part ii.\n\u2014 Esthnische M\u00e4rchen. Veckenstedt\u2019s Zeitschrift f\u00fcr Volkskunde, i. pp. 314-317 (1889). Contains three p. 301 stories: \u201cThe Devil\u2019s Visit,\u201d \u201cThe Talking Trees\u201d (Christian variant), and \u201cThe Officious Flies.\u201d Jannsen states that the first has already been printed in the original, and that the other two are from his own collections.\nKALEWIPOEG, \u00dcks ennemuistene Eesti jut.
