Hyett, [1923]\nOVER the frozen plain snow-white\n The three Kings will come tonight;\n We shall know by the kettle-drums\n Which way the procession comes.\nThey have come from very far,\n Following fast behind a Star,\n In their shimmering robes of silk,\n Riding horses white as milk.\nThey bring thro' the starlit dark\n Gold once hid in No\u00eb's Ark;\n They bear over snow and ice\n Bags of musk and myrrh and spice.\nThey have brought from the warm countree\n Cloves like nails from a blossoming tree,\n Flowers of a branch of a Tree that grew\n In Eden when the world was new.\nThey have heard of a wondrous thing,\n That here is born a little King;\n They bring treasures of great worth\n To the Treasure of the earth.\nWhen we see the Kings ride past,\n Thro' the silence white and vast,\n In the night will bloom, methinks,\n Velvet roses and striped pinks.\nWhen we see them all aglow\n Riding over leagues of snow,\n In their robes of red and gold,\n We shall never feel the cold.\nWe will print upon the gifts\n They have borne thro' the snow-drifts,\n Thro' the bitter weather wild,\n Kisses for the little Child.\n--R.
