Awerdad Yasht\n ----------------\n0. May Ahura Mazda be rejoiced! ....\nAshem Vohu: Holiness is the best of all good....\nI confess myself a worshipper of Mazda, a follower of\nZarathushtra, one who hates the Daevas and obeys the laws of\nAhura;\nFor sacrifice, prayer, propitiation, and glorification unto\n[Havani], the holy and master of holiness....\nUnto Haurvatat, the master; unto the prosperity of the\nseasons and unto the years, the masters of holiness,\nBe propitiation, with sacrifice, prayer, propitiation, and\nglorification.\nYatha ahu vairyo: The will of the Lord is the law of\nholiness....\nWe sacrifice unto Haurvatat, the Amesha-Spenta; we sacrifice\nunto the prosperity of the seasons; we sacrifice unto the years,\nthe holy and masters of holiness.\n1. Ahura Mazda spake unto Spitama Zarathushtra, saying: 'I\ncreated for the faithful the help, the enjoyments, the comforts,\nand the pleasures of Haurvatat. We unite them with him who would\ncome up to thee as one of the Amesha-Spentas, as he would come to\nany of the Amesha-Spentas, Vohu-Mano, Asha-Vahishta,\nKhshathra-Vairya, Spenta-Armaiti, Haurvatat, and Ameretat.\n2. 'He who against the thousands of thousands of those Daevas,\nagainst their ten thousands of ten thousands, against their\nnumberless myriads would invoke the name of Haurvatat, as one of\nthe Amesha-Spentas, he would smite the Nasu, he would smite\nHashi, he would smite Bashi, he would smite Saeni, he would\nsmite Buji.\n3. 'How does the way of the faithful turn and part from the way\nof the wicked?'\nAhura Mazda answered: 'It is when a man pronouncing my\nspell, either reading or reciting it by heart, draws the furrows\nand hides there himself, [saying]:\n6. '\"I will smite thee, O Druj! whomsoever thou art, whomsoever\nthou art amongst the Drujes that come in an open way, whomsoever\nthou art amongst the Drujes that come by hidden way, whomsoever\nthou art amongst the Drujes that defile by contact; whatsoever\nDruj thou art, I smite thee away from the Aryan countries;\nwhatsoever Druj thou art, I bind thee; I smite thee down, O Druj!\nI throw thee down below, O Druj!\"\n7. '\"If men had worshipped me with a sacrifice in which\nI had been invoked by my own name, as they worship the other Yazatas\nwith sacrifices in which they are invoked by their own names,\nI should have taken to me the strength of ten horses, the strength\nof ten camels, the strength of ten bulls, the strength of ten\nmountains, the strength of ten rivers.\"\n25. 'Then I, Ahura Mazda, offer up to the bright and glorious\nTishtrya a sacrifice in which he is invoked by his own name, and\nI bring him the strength of ten horses, the strength of ten camels,\nthe strength of ten bulls, the strength of ten mountains, the\nstrength of ten rivers.\n26. 'Then, O Spitama Zarathushtra! the bright and glorious Tishtrya\ngoes down to the sea Vouru-Kasha in the shape of a white, beautiful\nhorse, with golden ears and golden caparison.\n27. 'But there rushes down to meet him the Daeva Apaosha in the\nshape of a dark horse, black with black ears, black with a black\nback, black with a black tail, stamped with brands of terror.\n28. 'They meet together, hoof against hoof, O Spitama Zarathushtra!\nthe bright and glorious Tishtrya, and the Daeva Apaosha; they\nfight together, O Zarathushtra! till the time of noon. Then the\nbright and glorious Tishtrya proves stronger than the Daeva Apaosha,\nhe overcomes him.\n29. 'Then he goes from the sea Vouru-Kasha as far as a Hathra's\nlength: \"Hail!\" cries the bright and glorious Tishtrya.\n\"Hail unto me, O Ahura Mazda! Hail unto you, O waters and\nplants! Hail, O Law of the worshippers of Mazda! Hail will it\nbe unto you, O lands! The life of the waters will flow down unrestrained\nto the big-seeded corn fields, to the small-seeded pasture-fields,\nand to the whole of the material world!\"\n30. Then the bright and glorious Tishtrya goes back down to the\nsea Vouru-Kasha, in the shape of a white, beautiful horse, with\ngolden ears and a golden caparison.\n31. 'He makes the sea boil up and down; he makes the sea stream\nthis and that way; he makes the sea flow this and that way: all\nthe shores of the sea Vouru-Kasha are boiling over, all the middle\nof it is boiling over.\n32. 'And the bright and glorious Tishtrya rises up from the sea\nVouru-Kasha, O Spitama Zarathushtra! the bright and glorious Satavaesa\nrises up from the sea Vouru-Kasha; and vapours rise up above Mount\nUs-hindu, that stands in the middle of the sea Vouru-Kasha.\n33. 'Then the vapours push forward, in the regular shape of clouds;\nthey go following the wind, along the ways which Haoma traverses,\nthe increaser of the world. Behind him travels the mighty wind,\nmade by Mazda, and the rain, and the cloud, and the sleet, down\nto the several places, down to the fields, down to the seven Karshvares\nof the earth.\n34. 'Apam Napat, O Spitama Zarathushtra! divides the waters amongst\nthe countries in the material world, in company with the mighty\nwind, the Glory, made by the waters, and the Fravashis of the\nfaithful.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[7]]\n35. 'We sacrifice unto Tishtrya, the bright and glorious star,\nwho from the shining east, moves along his long winding course,\nalong the path made by the gods, along the way appointed for him\nthe watery way, at the will of Ahura Mazda, at the will of the\nAmesha-Spentas.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[8]]\n36. 'We sacrifice unto Tishtrya, the bright and glorious star,\nwhose rising is watched by men who live on the fruits of the year,\nby the chiefs of deep understanding; by the wild beasts in the\nmountains, by the tame beasts that run in the plains; they watch\nhim, as he comes up to the country for a bad year, or for a good\nyear, (thinking in themselves): \"How shall the Aryan countries\nbe fertile?\"\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[9]]\n37. 'We sacrifice unto Tishtrya, the bright and glorious star,\nswift-flying and swift-moving, who flies towards the sea Vouru-Kasha,\nas swiftly as the arrow darted through the heavenly space, which\nErekhsha, the swift archer, the Arya amongst the Aryas whose arrow\nwas the swiftest, shot from Mount Khshaotha to Mount Hvanvant.\n38. 'Ahura Mazda gave him assistance, and the Amesha-Spentas and\nMithra, the lord of wide pastures, pointed him the way: behind\nhim went the tall Ashish Vanguhi and Parendi on her light chariot:\nalways till, in his course, he reached Mount Hvanvant on the shining\nwaters.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[10]]\n39. 'We sacrifice unto Tishtrya, the bright and glorious star,\nwho afflicts the Pairikas, who destroys the Pairikas, that Angra\nMainyus flung to stop all the stars that have in them the seed\nof the waters.\n40. 'Tishtrya afflicts them, he blows them away from the sea Vouru-Kasha;\nthen the wind blows the clouds forward, bearing the waters of\nfertility, so that the friendly showers spread wide over, they\nspread helpingly and friendly over the seven Karshvares.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[10]]\n41. 'We sacrifice unto Tishtrya, the bright and glorious star,\nfor whom long the standing waters, and the running spring-waters,\nthe stream-waters, and the rain-waters:\n42. '\"When will the bright and glorious Tishtrya rise up\nfor us? When will the springs with a flow and overflow of waters,\nthick as a horse's shoulder, run to the beautiful places and fields,\nand to the pastures, even to the roots of the plants, that they\nmay grow with a powerful growth?\"\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[10]]\n43. 'We sacrifice unto Tishtrya, the bright and glorious star,\nwho washes away all things of fear, who stunts the growth of all\n...., and brings health to all these creations, being most beneficent,\nwhen he has been worshipped with a sacrifice and propitiated,\nrejoiced, and satisfied.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[10]]\n44. 'I will sacrifice unto Tishtrya, the bright and glorious star,\nwhom Ahura Mazda has established as a lord and overseer above\nall stars, in the same way as he has established Zarathushtra\nabove men; whom neither Angra Mainyu, nor the Yatus and the Pairikas,\nnor the men Yatus can deliver unto death, nor can all the Daevas\ntogether prevail for his death.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[10]]\n45. 'We sacrifice unto Tishtrya, the bright and glorious star,\nto whom Ahura Mazda has given a thousand senses, and who is the\nmost beneficent amongst the stars that have in them the seed of\nthe waters:\n46. 'Who moves in light with the stars that have in them the seed\nof the waters: he, from the sea Vouru-Kasha, the powerful sea,\nthe large-sized, deep, and salt of waters, goes to all the lakes,\nand to all the beautiful caves, and to all the beautiful channels,\nin the shape of a white, beautiful horse, with golden ears and\na golden caparison.\n47. 'Then, O Spitama Zarathushtra! the waters flow down from the\nsea Vouru-Kasha, mother-like, friendly, and healing: he divides\nthem amongst these countries, being most beneficent, when he has\nbeen worshipped with a sacrifice and propitiated rejoiced, and\nsatisfied. 'For his brigbtness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice\nworth being heard....\n [[10]]\n48. 'We sacrifice unto Tishtrya, the bright and glorious star,\nfor whom long all the creatures of Spenta-Mainyu, those that live\nunder the ground, and those that live above the ground; those\nthat live in the waters, and those that live on dry land; those\nthat fly, and those that run in the plains; and all those that\nlive within this boundless and endless world of the holy Spirit.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[10]]\n49. 'We sacrifice unto Tishtrya, the bright and glorious star,\nthe healthful, wise, happy, and powerful, who is the lord of a\nthousand boons, and grants many boons to that man who has pleased\nhim, whether begging or not begging for them.\n50. 'I, O Spitama Zarathushtra! have created that star Tishtrya\nas worthy of sacrifice, as worthy of prayer, as worthy of progitiation,\nas worthy of glorification as myself, Ahura Mazda;\n51. 'In order to withstand, to break asunder, to afflict, to drive\nback the malice of that Pairika Duzyairya, whom evil-speaking\npeople call Huyairya.\n52. 'Had I not created that star Tishtrya as worthy of sacrifice,\nas worthy of prayer, as worthy of propitiation, as worthy of glorification\nas myself, Ahura Mazda;\n53. 'In order to withstand, to break asunder, to afflict, to drive\nback the malice of that Pairika Duzyairya, whom evil-speaking\npeople call Huyairya;\n54. 'Then all day long, all night long, that Pairika Duzyairya\nwould wage war against this material world of mine, wanting to\nextinguish its life, and she goes on, rushing upon and around\nit.\n55. 'But the bright and glorious Tishtrya keeps that Pairika in\nbonds, with twofold bonds, with threefold bonds, that cannot be\novercome, with bonds all over the body: it is as if there were\na thousand men keeping one man in bonds, a thousand men of those\nwho are the strongest in strength.\n56. 'If the Aryan countries, O Spitama Zarathushtra! would perform\nin honour of the bright and glorious Tishtrya the due sacrifice\nand invocation, just as that sacrifice and invocation ought to\nbe performed in the perfection of holiness; never should a hostile\nhorde enter these Aryan countries, nor any plague, nor leprosy,\nnor venomous plants, nor the chariot of a foe, nor the uplifted\nspear of a foe.'\n57. Zarathushtra asked: 'What is then, O Ahura Mazda! the sacrifice\nand invocation in honour of the bright and glorious Tishtrya,\nas it ought to be performed in the perfection of holiness?'\n58. Ahura Mazda answered: 'Let the Aryan nations bring libations\nunto him; let the Aryan nations tie bundles of baresma for him;\nlet the Aryan nations cook for him a head of cattle, either white,\nor black, or of any other colour, but all of one and the same\ncolour.\n59. 'Let not a murderer take of these offerings, nor a whore,\nnor a .... who does not sing the Gathas, who spreads death in\nthe world and withstands the law of Mazda, the law of Zarathushtra.\n60. 'If a murderer take of these offerings, or a whore, or a ....\nwho does not sing the Gathas, who spreads death in the world and\nwithstands the law of Mazda, the law of Zarathushtra, then the\nbright and glorious Tishtrya takes back his healing virtues.\n61. 'Plagues will ever pour upon the Aryan nations; hostile hordes\nwill ever fall upon the Aryan nations; the Aryans will be smitten,\nby their fifties and their hundreds, by their hundreds and their\nthousands, by thetr thousands and their tens of thousands, by\ntheir tens of thousands and their myriads of myriads.\n62. 'Yatha ahu vairyo: The will of the Lord is the law of holiness....\n'I bless the sacrifice and prayer, and the strength and vigour\nof Tishtrya, the bright and glorious star, and of the powerful\nSatavaesa, made by Mazda, who pushes waters forward.\n'Ashem Vohu: Holiness is the best of all good....\n'[Give] unto that man brightness and glory, .... give him the\nbright, all-happy, blissful abode of the holy Ones.'\n 9. 'So mayest thou, O Mithra, lord of wide pastures! give swiftness\nto our teams, strength to our own bodies, and that we may watch\nwith full success those who hate us, smite down our foes, and\ndestroy at one stroke our adversaries, our enemies, and those\nwho hate us.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[29]]\n115. 'We sacrifice unto Mithra, the lord of wide pastures, ....\nsleepless, and ever awake.\n'O Mithra, lord of wide pastures! thou master of the house, of\nthe borough, of the town, of the country, thou Zarathushtrotema!\n116. 'Mithra is twentyfold between two friends or two relations;\n'Mithra is thirtyfold between two men of the same group;\n'Mithra is fortyfold between two partners;\n'Mithra is fiftyfold between wife and husband;\n'Mithra is sixtyfold between two pupils (of the same master);\n'Mithra is seventyfold between the pupil and his master;\n'Mithra is eightyfold between the son-in-law and his father-in-law;\n'Mithra is ninetyfold between two brothers;\n117. 'Mithra is a hundredfold between the father and the son;\n'Mithra is a thousandfold between two nations;\n'Mithra is ten thousandfold when connected with the Law of Mazda,\nand then he will be every day of victorious strength.\n118. 'May I come unto thee with a prayer that goes lowly or goes\nhighly! As this sun rises up above the Hara Berezaiti and then\nfulfils its career, so may I, O Spitama! with a prayer that goes\nlowly or goes highly, rise up above the will of the fiend Angra\nMainyu!\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[30]]\n119. 'We sacrifice unto Mithra, the lord of wide pastwes, ....\nsleepless, and ever awake,\n'Offer up a sacrifice unto Mithra, O Spitama! and order thy pupils\nto do the same.\n'Let the worshipper of Mazda sacrifice unto thee with small cattle,\nwith black cattle, with flying birds, gliding forward on wings.\n120. 'To Mithra all the faithful worshiypers of Mazda must give\nstrength and energy with offered and proffered Haomas, which the\nZaotar proffers unto him and gives in sacrifice. Let the faithful\nman drink of the libations cleanly prepared, which if he does,\nif he offers them unto Mithra, the lord of wide pastures, Mithra\nwill be pleased with him and without anger.'\n121. Zarathushtra asked him: 'O Ahura Mazda! how shall the faithful\nman drink the libations cleanly prepared, which if he does and\nhe offers them unto Mithra, the lord of wide pastures, Mithra\nwill be pleased vvith him and without anger?'\n122. Ahura Mazda answered: 'Let them wash their bodies three days\nand three nights; let them undergo thirty strokes for the sacrifice\nand prayer unto Mithra, the lord of wide pastures. Let them wash\ntheir bodies two days and two nights; let them undergo twenty\nstrokes for the sacrifice and prayer unto Mithra, the lord of\nwide pastures. Let no man drink of these libations who does not\nknow the staota yesnya: Vispe ratavo.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacriace worth\nbeing heard....\n [[31]]\n123. 'We sacrifice unto Mithra, the lord of wide pastures, ....\nsleepless, and ever awake;\n'To whom Ahura Mazda offered up a sacrifice in the shining Garo-nmana.\n124. 'With his arms lifted up towards Immortality, Mithra, the\nlord of wide pastures, drives forward from the shining Garo-nmana,\nin a beautiful chariot that drives on, ever-swift, adorned with\nall sorts of ornaments, and made of gold.\n125. 'Four stallions draw that chariot, all of the same white colour,\nliving on heavenly food and undying. The hoofs of their fore-feet\nare shod with gold, the hoofs of their hind-feet are shod with\nsilver; all are yoked to the same pole, and wear the yoke and\nthe cross-beams of the yoke, fastened with hooks of Khshathra\nvairya to a beautiful....\n126. 'At his right hand drives Rashnu-Razishta, the most beneficent\nand most well-shapen.\n'At his left hand drives the most upright Chista, the holy one,\nbearing libations in her hands, clothed with white clothes, and\nwhite herself; and the cursing thought of the Law of Mazda.\n127. 'Close by him drives the strong cursing thought of the wise\nman, opposing foes in the shape of a boar, a sharp-toothed he-boar,\na sharp- jawed boar, that kills at one stroke, pursuing, wrathful,\nwith a dripping face, strong and swift to run, and rushing all\naround.\n'Behind him drives Atar, all in a blaze, and the awful kingly\nGlory.\n128. 'On a side of the chariot of Mithra, the lord of wide pastures,\nstand a thousand bows well-made, with a string of cowgut; they\ngo through the heavenly space, they fall through the heavenly\nspace upon the skulls of the Daevas.\n129. 'On a side of the chariot of Mithra, the lord of wide pastures,\nstand a thousand vulture-feathered arrows, with a golden mouth,\nwith a horn shaft, with a brass tail, and well-made. They go through\nthe heavenly space, they fall through the heavenly space upon\nthe skulls of the Daevas.\n130. 'On a side of the chariot of Mithra, the lord of wide pastures,\nstand a thousand spears well-made and sharp-piercing. They go\nthrough the heavenly space, they fall through the heavenly space\nupon the skulls of the Daevas.\n'On a side of the chariot of Mithra, the lord of wide pastures,\nstand a thousand steel-hammers, two-edged, well-made. They go\nthrough the heavenly space, they fall through the heavenly space\nupon the skulls of the Daevas.\n131. 'On a side of the chariot of Mithra, the lord of wide pastures,\nstand a thousand swords, two-edged and well-made. They go through\nthe heavenly space, they fall through the heavenly space upon\nthe skulls of the Daevas.\n'On a side of the chariot of Mithra, the lord of wide pastures,\nstand a thousand maces of iron, well-made. They go through the\nheavenly space, they fall through the heavenly space upon the\nskulls of the Daevas.\n132. 'On a side of the chariot of Mithra, the lord of wide pastures,\nstands a beautiful well-falling club, with a hundred knots, a\nhundred edges, that rushes forward and fells men down; a club\ncast out of red brass, of strong, golden brass; the strongest\nof all weapons, the most victorious of all weapons. It goes through\nthe heavenly space, it falls through the heavenly space upon the\nskulls of the Daevas.\n133. After he has smitten the Daevas, after he has smitten down\nthe men who lied unto Mithra, Mithra, the lord of wide pastures,\ndrives forward through Arezahe and Savahe, through Fradadhafshu\nand Vidadhafshu, through Vourubareshti and Vouru-jareshti, through\nthis our Karshvare, the bright Hvaniratha.\n134. 'Angra Mainyu, who is all death, flees away in fear; Aeshma,\nthe evil-doing Peshotanu, flees away in fear; the long-handed\nBushyasta flees away in fear; all the Daevas unseen and the Varenya\nfiends flee away in fear.\n135. 'Oh! may we never fall across the rush of Mithra, the lord\nof wide pastures, when in anger! May Mithra, the lord of wide\npastures, never smite us in his anger; he who stands up upon this\nearth as the strongest of all gods, the most valiant of all gods,\nthe most energetic of all gods, the swiftest of all gods, the\nmost fiend-smiting of all gods, he, Mithra, the lord of wide pastures.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[32]]\n136. 'We sacrifice unto Mithra, the lord of wide pastures, ....\nsleepless, and ever awake;\n'For whom white stallions, yoked to his chariot, draw it, on one\ngolden wheel, with a full shining axle.\n137. 'If Mithra takes his libations to his own dwelling, \"Happy\nthat man, I think,\" - said Ahura Mazda,- \"O holy Zarathra!\nfor whom a holy priest, as pious as any in the world, who is the\nWord incarnate, offers up a sacrifice unto Mithra with bundles\nof baresma and with the [proper] words.\n'\"Straight to that man, I think, will Mithra come, to visit\nhis dwelling,\n138. '\"When Mithra's boons will come to him, as he follows\nGod's teaching, and thinks according to God's teaching.\n'\"Woe to that man, I think,\" - said Ahura Mazda, - \"O\nholy Zarathushtra! for whom an unholy priest, not pious, who is\nnot the Word incarnate, stands behind the baresma, however full\nmay be the bundles of baresma he ties, however long may be the\nsacrifice he performs.\"\n139. 'He does not delight Ahura Mazda, nor the other Amesha-Spentas,\nnor Mithra, the lord of wide pastures, he who thus scorns Mazda,\nand the other Amesha-Spentas, and Mithra, the lord of wide pastures,\nand the Law, and Rashnu, and Arstat, who makes the world grow,\nwho makes the world increase.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[33]]\n140. 'We sacrifice unto Mithra, the lord of wide pastures, ....\nsleepless, and ever awake.\n'I will offer up a sacrifice unto the good Mithra, O Spitama!\nunto the strong, heavenly god, who is foremost, highly merciful,\nand peerless; whose house is above, a stout and strong warrior;\n141. 'Victorious and armed with a well-fashioned weapon, watchful\nin darkness and undeceivable. He is the stoutest of the stoutest,\nhe is the strongest of the strongest, he is the most intelligent\nof the gods, he is victorious and endowed with Glory: he, of the\nten thousand eyes, of the ten thousand spies, the powerful, all-knowing,\nundeceivable god.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[34]]\n142. 'We sacrifice unto Mithra, the lord of wide pastures, ....\nsleepless, and ever awake;\n'Who, with his manifold knowledge, powerfully increases the creation\nof Spenta Mainyu, and is a well-created and most great Yazata,\nself-shining like the moon, when he makes his own body shine;\n143. 'Whose face is flashing with light like the face of the star\nTistrya; whose chariot is embraced by that goddess who is foremost\namongst those who have no deceit in them, O Spitama! who is fairer\nthan any creature in the world, and full of light to shine. I\nwill worship that chariot, wrought by the Maker, Ahura Mazda,\ninlaid with stars and made of a heavenly substance; (the chariot)\nof Mithra, who has ten thousand spies, the powerful, all-knowing,\nundeceivable god.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer him a sacrifice worth\nbeing heard....\n [[35]]\n144. 'We sacrifice unto Mithra, the lord of wide pastures, who\nis truth-speaking, a chief in assemblies, with a thousand ears,\nwell-shapen, with a thousand eyes, high, with full knowledge,\nstrong, sleepless, and ever awake.\n'We sacrifice unto the Mithra around countries;\n'We sacrifice unto the Mithra within countries;\n'We sacrifice unto the Mithra in this country;\n'We sacrifice unto the Mithra above countries;\n'We sacrifice unto the Mithra under countries;\n'We sacrifice unto the Mithra before countries;\n'We sacrifice unto the Mithra behind countries.\n145. 'We sacrifice unto Mithra and Ahura, the two great, imperishable,\nholy gods; and unto the stars, and the moon, and the sun, with\nthe trees that yield up baresma. We sacrifice unto Mithra, the\nlord of all countries.\n'For his brightness and glory, I will offer unto him a sacrifice\nworth being heard, namely, unto Mithra, the lord of wide pastures.\n'Yatha ahu vairyo: The will of the Lord is the law of holiness....\n'I bless the sacrifice and p yer, and the strength and vigour\nof Mithra, the lord of wide pastures, who has a thousand ears,\nten thousand eyes, a Yazata invoked by his own name; and that\nof Rama Hvastra.\n'Ashem Vohu: Holiness is the best of all good....\n'[Give] unto that man brightness and glory, .... give him the\nbright, all-happy, blissful abode of the holy Ones!'\n 11.
